Police investigate sale of babies in Lagos

Adelowo Oladipo, Lagos - 30.04.2008

The police in Lagos State have commenced investigation into the sale of 60 days old twin babies at N120,000.

Also being investigated over the sale of the twins, said to be girls, are both the 60-year-old father, John Chukwu and his wife, Nwakego (32), over their complicity in the illegal act.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the plan of the wife to either abandon or sell the babies was hatched during her pregnancy following the failure of her husband to provide for her needs and settle hospital bills during the period.

It was learnt that the mother of the twins did not visit the hospital for about seven months during the pregnancy due to lack of assistance from her husband.

Police sources stated that one of her neighbours, identitied as Isaac, also said to be a suspect in the case, provided the money for a scanning test which was conducted on her at a hospital at an advanced stage of the pregnancy.
