Oceanic forum: Soludo, others advocate robust human devt

Achieving Nigeria’s quest of being in the top 20 bracket of strong economies will require the development of a robust human capital base, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has said.

Speaking yesterday at the Oceanic Bank Global Leaders Forum, Prof. Soludo said the nation needed to establish structures that would empower Nigerians to develop their potentials, a development he added, would lead to fast-paced development in all spheres of the economy.

Other speakers at the forum concurred with his position, saying that Nigeria could only fulfill the world’s promise for it by developing its human capital.

The CBN governor commended Oceanic Bank for providing an avenue for renowned leaders of thought to share ideas on how Nigeria could harness its human capital potentials to facilitate sustainable development.

Entitled “Human Capital Development in an Emerging Economy: Harnessing, Engaging and Wealth Creation”, the Global Leaders Forum is an annual initiative of the Bank geared towards facilitating Nigeria’s emergence as foremost nation in Africa and the world. Dr. (Mrs.)Cecilia Ibru said the bank chose the subject of human capital to facilitate a lasting agenda that would culminate in the introduction of effective policies and strategies. “History has shown that one of the challenges of human capital development is the limited systematic collection and the analysis of data on the quantity, quality and performance of human capital development in various organisations. There is the need for us to pay close attention to issues bordering on internal training, mentoring and coaching”, she said.
