Man petitions Acting CP over wife’s alleged cybercrime

A Nigerian statistician based in the United States of America, Babajide Abayomi Olayinka, has petitioned the Acting Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Raphael Ibeazor over his ex-wife alleged cyber crime.

According to the petition signed by his lawyer, ‘Doyin Adebowale, the petitioner alleged that his wife, Adebisi Adebukola Olayinka, enjoys intimacy with internet syndicate whose specialty is cyber crime.

While stating that his wife was fond of accessing correspondence between him and his father on the internet through his mail box, the petitioner appealed to the Acting Commissioner of Police to assign his men at the monitoring unit to break into the operations of the syndicate.

According to him, “we may be unmasking yet another group of felons whose activities have continued to taint the image of our country internationally,”he said in the petition.

While explaining that it was sometime in December 2005 that he discovered that he could no longer access his e-mail address, the petitioner stated that he reported the matter to the Yahoo authority in the United States of America who promptly waded into the matter.

However, Crimefile reliably gathered that the Monitoring Unit of the state police command has waded into the matter and is currently investigating the case.

A reliable police source who spoke to Crimefile on condition of anonymity said cyber crime is a serious offence which the police are currently battling with. He however assures that the Monitoring Unit will get to the root of the matter soonest.

Our source also said the police have extended an invitation to the counsel to the petitioner’s ex-wife, Kolawole Odole to give a clue to the whereabouts of his client.

While reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bisi Okuwobi said the police are still investigating the case.
