Train kills woman in Umuahia

A moving train has killed a middleaged woman in the popular Isi-Gate market located in Umuahia, the Abia State capital over the weekend.

The railway line runs through the market and, according to an eyewitness account, the train hit and threw the woman away.

Sunday Tribune gathered that the woman, simply identified as Madam Ngozi Egeonu, was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, where she died.

It was also gathered that Madam Egeonu was about to travel to the US, where she planned to go to meet her daughter who had been delivered of a set of twins.

In an interview with the son of the deceased, Mr. Sam Egeonu, Madam Egeonu went to the market three times on that fateful day to get one or two things she needed to take along in her trip to the USA.

Mr. Sam added that he was scheduled to go to Lagos to conclude travelling arrangements for her mother before she met her untimely death.

Because of the irregular train movement on the railway line, traders usually display their goods on the rail line.

As a result of this situation, traders were always on their heels whenever a train made a sudden appearance. Many times, traders had lost their goods as a result of that.Biola Azeez, Umuahia
