More than 60
members of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State would be vying for various positions in the forthcoming local government election in the state, but on the platform of the Action Congress (AC).
This was revealed to the Nigerian Tribune in Port Harcourt on Monday by the Publicity Secretary of the AC in the state, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze.
He said the party was confident of winning 16 of the 23 local government councils in the state.
Eze, responding to a question via a text message, had earlier in a press statement, emphasised the party’s readiness to win the elections.
According to Eze, the number of people defecting from the PDP to contest on the AC platform “as of the last count, are about 60 from different local government areas.”
In the statement, Eze quoted the leader of the party in the state, Prince Tonye Princewill, as saying that “we are using this election not only to establish our authority in Rivers State politics, but also to tell the people of the state where their golden future lays.
“We will use those lucky 16 local government councils that will vote in AC’s candidates as the bedrock to start the foundation of recreating the Rivers State of our dream.”
He said the party had pegged the mandatory fees for those who wanted to contest offices at N100,00 for chairmanship aspirants and N10,000 for councillorship aspirants.
