Girl 15, electrocuted, driver kills 2 children in Ibadan

A 15-year-old secondary school student simply identified as Maria Kehinde has been electrocuted in Omoniya Close, Iroko village in Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.

The deceased was said to have been sent on an errand to fetch water by her mother Madam Odunola Bamisuro. According to a resident of the area, Madam Belawo who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune on condition of anonymity, “Kehinde was sent to fetch water by her mother, this is not the first time she would be running an errand for her mother, she had on many occasions, but this tragedy took us by surprise.”

While explaining how Maria met her untimely death, Madam Belawo said the deceased was passing under an electric wire suspected to be having electric current with her plastic bucket on her head.

In her words, “unknown to her, the iron handle of the bucket touched the live current as she passed through”, she was immediately electrocuted. While describing the deceased as a humble and easy going girl, who could hardly hurt a fly, Madam Belawo, however, appealed to the authorities of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to always respond quickly to distress calls from their customers.
