Ajimobi’s lawyer, Adedoja raise alarm over assassination threat

A lawyer representing the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) governorship candidate, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi, before the Oyo State Election Petition Tribunal, in a petition filed against the victory of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala,Chief Adeniyi Akintola, and the Action Congress (AC) governorship candidate in the April 2007 general election in the state, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, have raised the alarm over purported plan by unknown people to eliminate them.

The duo spoke separately with newsmen in telephone conversations in Ibadan, on Monday, saying that God has been their protector. “I received a telephone call from someone around 5.30 p.m. on Sunday evening, shortly after I arrived from Lagos.The person, who identified himself by name and did not hide his number, told me that some group of people had just concluded a meeting in which they agreed on assassinating me”

“The caller, who said he had to inform me because he loved me, said that I should not go to the tribunal on Monday and I should stay away from Ibadan and this made me to contact the Oyo State Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ralph Ibeazor, on the incident.”

“The police boss immediately swung into action, instructing me not to come down from my office until his men were around. The armed men came promptly and fortified my chambers.

“I was escorted out of the office by the securitymen and I refused to sleep in my house. I slept somewhere and from there, I came to the tribunal today. I believe I am covered by the blood of Jesus Christ. That threat message was just one of the threats I have been receiving. This one just came into the open. There had been many which one could not reveal,” Akintola said.

Also speaking on the alleged threat, Professor Adedoja said, “I have received series of calls from relatives, friends and political associates regarding the news, but God is in control and I have said it several times that that my entering into the governorship race is God's project and that is why I did not go to the tribunal. I sought for divine tribunal and I will get the best judgment from God.

“As far as the assassination threat is concerned, God is in control and appropriate steps are being taken. God's tribunal is higher than man's tribunal and there is where I am seeking my own judgment. I am a peaceful man and I love a peaceful life and God will protect his own, I believe.”
