Traditional worshippers at daggers drawn over supremacy - Bath Black day in Lagos as woman leads gang to raid bank

SOME Lagos residents wept uncontrollably recently following the dastard killing of a police constable, and a 15-year-old pupil of Holy Blessed College (names withheld) and two others during an early morning raid on a first generation bank at Iju-Ishaga road area of the state by men of the underworld.

Though it was not the first time that dare devil robbers would strike at any bank’s premises in Lagos but the manner of the killing of policemen attached to the bank had elicited emotions from the people in the neighbourhood as he was shot in the head, thereby leaving his brain to scatter on the spot while his lifeless body laid in the pool of his own blood.

Eyewitnesses informed Crime File that the armed bandits were eight in number, including three young females. The sources who craved for anonymity further disclosed that the robbers came to the bank in a Toyota Hiace bus and another white car and were armed with AK-47 rifles, shooting sporadically into the air.

Crime File also learnt that the hoodlums later escaped with an unspecified amount of money while they had superior gun power over the policemen attached to the bank. During the operation, the entire neighbourhood was said to have been thrown into chaos as everyone ran for his dear live while the robbers were shooting at people indiscriminately,” said a source. Crime file further gathered that the bank’s branch manager was one of those felled by the robbers’ bullets, but it was not however confirmed if he was killed.

Crime file gathered that the robbery operation was spear-headed by a young lady. She was said to have beckoned to her gang members immediately after the operation that lasted few minutes in a Rambo-like-manner to shift base to a new generation bank, (names witheld) at Abule-Egba. It was however revealed that before their arrival at the Bank, an armoured tank career had been stationed there which frustrated the gang’s attempt at robbing the bank.

Meanwhile, a combined team of anti-robbery police men from the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) Panti Street, Yaba, Lagos and their counterparts from Iju police station and policemen from Area ‘G’ were seen carrying out investigation at the bank’s premises when this reporter visited the premises.
