We Have No Plan To Cause Crisis - OPC

THE Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, The Oodua Peoples' Congress, has denied medial report that members of the organisation who were arrested in Ijomu in Kogi State a few days ago had planned to stir up pandemonium in the state ahead of the rescheduled gubernatorial election.

The organisation, in a press statement signed by its Deputy National Secretary, Mr. Momoh Ajayi, stated that his men were arrested without being in possession of any dangerous weapons, adding that they were on their way to the organisation's weekly meeting when the police swooped on them.

Some members of the organisation were arrested on the 25th of March 2008, following the directive of the Inspector-General of Police that a member of the Action Congress in Kogi, Olusola Akanmode, be arrested for planning to stir up unrest in the state.

According to Momoh Ajayi, "They were being conveyed to their weekly Tuesday meeting, but at an undisclosed venue within the state. And as the private security guard at Akanmode's residence in his home town at Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijomu Local Government, he had to obey the directives of the group's leader known as Nurudeen Ashore."

The organisation, therefore, called for the immediate release of these OPC members, because, according to the statement, they did not have any intention to perpetrate any form of violence at the forthcoming election as reported.
