Yar’Adua, Mark honour Durojaiye’s wife

PRESIDENT Umaru Yar’Adua has paid glowing tributes to Chief (Mrs.) Florence Olufunso Durojaiye, whose remains were interred last Sunday in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.

The Minister, Youth Development, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, represented the president on the occasion, which attracted other eminent persons from different parts of the country.

Senator Lekan Mustapha, who said he came in his personal and official capacity, stood in for the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark.

The funeral service was held at the Cathedral Church of saint Matthew, Ojowo, Ijebu-Igbo, with the Bishop of Ijebu-North, Rt. Rev. S.G. Kuponu, presiding.

He was assisted by the Lord Bishop of Ijebu, Rt. Rev. Ayodele Awosoga, Rt. Rev. Bayo Obijole and a representative of the Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Adebola Ademowo.

In his sermon, Bishop Kuponu extolled her virtues of humility and radiance, noting that she made invaluable contributions to her family, the church and the community.

He appealed to political leaders in Ogun State to sheathe their swords so as to fast track development in the state.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Akarigbo of Remo, Oba M.A. Sonariwo, sent represen-tatives to the burial.

Several other serving and former public officers at federal and state levels as well as business tycoons, including the Chairman of the First City Group and his Olori, paid glowing tributes to the late Iyaniwura of Ijebu-Igbo who died on June 20, 2009.
