Freedom Radio vice chairman arrested

Kola Oyelere, Kano - 28.06.2009

ALHAJI Ado Muhammad, Executive Vice Chairman of Freedom Radio, a private radio in Kano, has been arrested by the police in connection with alleged insinuations against Kano State government on the murder of Sheikh Ja'afar Mahmud Adam who was assassinated over two years ago.

According to the police, a cheque of N100 million said to have been given by the state government for the killing of Sheikh Ja'afar was traced to the account of a company belonging to Alhaji Ado Muhammad.

Further investigations indicated that the said amount was not found in the account. However, it was also uncovered by the police that a letter purportedly signed by a permanent secretary in the state for the release of the money was also forged.

It could be recalled that sometimes this year, the said cheque of N100 million and the approval letter for the release of the money as payment for the killing of Sheikh Ja'afar Mahmud Adam were published online.

According to police spokesman, ACP Emmanuel Ojukwu, Alhaji Ado Muhammad was arrested by the police and transferred to Abuja. Last April, a story in a website called saharareporters.com linked Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano state to the assassination of Sheikh Ja'afar.
