Ekiti ’ll rule sports again - Gov Oni

Ekiti State governor, Engineer Segun Oni has promised to return the state to a force in sports by establishing sports academies across the state.

Speaking at the formal opening ceremony of NIPOGA 2008 at the sports centre of The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, last Saturday, Governor Oni, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Sikiru Lawal, said the state was poised to be a force to reckon with in the field of sports through planning.

“Ekiti State has established sports academies across the state in our bid to return as a force to be reckon with in sports. Very soon, his state is going to dominate the sports scene again,” he said.

He stated that the “state is proud to host NIPOGA 2008 and is ever ready to assist further in the successful hosting of the Games.”

Speaking earlier, Rector of the institution, Prof Olawumi Ajaja, thanked Governor Oni for the assistance in making the hosting a reality, just as he also saluted the Grand Custodian of the Games,Chief Afe Babalola(SAN), who he said was the driving force behind the hosting of the Games.

Thirty-eight institutions participated in the colourful ceremony.
