64 jostle for honour at NNPC/Chevron junior tennis

SIXTY-FOUR players will be aiming to lift the coveted trophy as the eight edition of the NNPC/Chevron Junior Masters Tournament served off on Sunday at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.

The championship, which commenced with the registration and screening of players, drawn from the 36 states and FCT, Abuja hoping to cuddle the coveted trophy this Sunday.

The players who are champions in their various states will join other 11 others for the Chevron clinic to contest for the coveted trophy. According to the co-ordinator of the event, Chris Enahoro, this year’s event would bring out the best in the players as more experienced players would feature in the championship.

His words: “We are going to ensure that every player will play each day throughout the competition. We noticed that whenever a player has been beaten in the first round, such player would remain idle until the end of the event. But this year, we want to ensure that we really engage the players and that is why we will be having consolation matches in this year’s tournament.”

Among the top players that will jostle for honours at the nine-day championship include, last year’s runner-up, Kehinde Alade of Chevron, Anthony Michael of Kaduna and south Africa-based Samuel Omoile, who is also a product of the Chevron Clinic.
