New science curricula for students underway

The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, is set to change the content of science curricula for students in tertiary schools in the country.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Mrs. Grace Ekpiwhre, who disclosed this, said the aim was to make science education less abstract and meaningful to average Nigerian students.

Speaking when the executive of the Nigerian chapter of Third World Organisation For Women in Science visited her in her office, she lamented over the level of interest shown by students to science, adding that the ministry would arrest the trend through its Science Equipment Development Institutes which had developed and mass-produced science equipment kits for tertiary schools.

She also said these kits would make the learning of science more interesting, adding that her ministry was also collaborating with the Education Ministry in a scheme on science paradigm shift to make science graduates more employable.
