Plateau govt to open special account for Dariye’s loot

Isaac Shobayo, Jos - 27.12.2007

Plateau State governor, Mr. Jonah Jang, has said his adminstration would open a special account for funds recovered from the former governor, Mr. Joshua Dariye, with the aim of using the money for developmental projects.

The governor, who said this at a forum with journalists, said the money would not be touched until the entire loot of the former adminstration was recovered.

He added that the cheque recently released to the state government as part of the recovered money was still being processed as it was written in the name of the Federal Government and had been returned to the Federal Ministry of Finance for another cheque to be issued to the state.

Jang said N6 billion saved by his administration in the past six months was as a result of the prudent management of resources, adding that most of it came from the reduction in overheads, what was saved from the table payment to civil servants to expose ghost workers, among others.
