Ex-Chief of Air Staff dragged before NHRC
Bola Badmus, Abuja
- 27.11.2007
Former Chief of Air
Staff, Air Marshal
Ibrahim Alfa (rtd), has been dragged to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
He was accused of forcefully taking over a plot of land allocated by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) for the construction of a filling station.
An oil company, Flez Oil and Gas Limited, dragged the former Air Force chief before the commission for pulling down its filling station built on a land in Abuja, which is in dispute between it and Alfa.
In its petition to the NHRC and the Inspector General of Police, urging them to intervene for rights abuse, the company alleged that Alfa ignored a subsisting court order by mobilising a bulldozer to pull down structures on the disputed land.
Justice Maryann Anenih of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had on October 29, fixed November 28 for hearing on the motion on notice on suit FCT/HC/CV/ 1383/2007 in the case instituted against Popeyes Nigeria Limited and Zonstar Gases Nigeria Limited, owned by the former Chief of Air Staff.
