Kwara CJ releases 21 inmates

OUT of 200 inmates awaiting trial in Ilorin Federal Prison, the acting Chief Judge of Kwara State, Justice Raliat Elelu-Habeeb, has released 21on health grounds and unnecessary detention.

Among those released was one Mallam Yahaya Ibrahim who was arrested for theft of two fowls about a month ago in Ilorin, while Mallam Abdullahi Alao and Tonile Lukman had been in detention since 2006 for a theft of N210.

Justice Elelu-Habib, who visited the prison on Monday, called for their files as she went through them one after the other to asses them.

She urged those released to be of good behaviour as they were being integrated back to the society, adding that those who did not have work should go and learn one.

She commended the staff members of the prison for keeping the inmates in good condition, stressing that she was satisfied with the neatness of the prison environment.
