America honours Sonny Okosuns

Late Sonny OkosunsIn appreciation of his struggle to liberate the African continent from oppression, apartheid and slavery, a frontline African-American socialist group, African Liberation Forum honoured the Ozziddi music maestro, late Evangelist (Dr.) Sonny Okosuns, OON. The Fire In Soweto music maker was given a post-humous award in far away United States for his invaluable contributions to freedom for Africans in Africa and Africans in the diaspora.

The Lifetime Award, according to Charles Okosun, immediate younger brother to the "African Soldier" witnessed a Lying-In-State on June 20, 2008 in Washington District of Columbia, U.S capital. “In fact, all the African musical groups in 52 states in the United States turned out en-masse in honour of Sonny Okosuns. The African musical groups jammed in a tribute concert for Ozziddi king as a mark of respect for an African legend and hero”, stated Charles.

The post-humous award was received by Sydney, a son to the African music icon and the wife of the music philosopher. All arrangements are in top gear in Nigeria by the Federal Government, Edo and Enugu State governments towards a successful state burial ceremony for this great ambassador of Esanland.

His body arrives Nigeria June 30, 2008.

Star Trek ends in Awka, Abakaliki this weekend

Weird MCLike all good things that must have an end, the Star lager ten-city music concert which has kept Nigerian youths dancing in the past four weekends, draws to a close this weekend with performances in Awka, capital of Anambra State and Abakaliki in Ebonyi State.

Both eastern Nigerian cities would have a dose of what has been enjoyed by youths in Uyo, Umuahia, Abuja, Kaduna, Abeokuta, Ilorin, Benin and Gboko. As it has been with this year’s Star Trek, the excitement is expected to reach a crescendo with the parade of the best of current Nigerian music stars. The parade includes 9ice, Ruggedman, African China, Felix Duke, 2007 and 2008 winners of Star Quest music talent hunt, D’Jewels and Diamonds respectively.

9ice, Ruggedman, Felix Duke and the Star Quest bands would rock the stands on Friday night at Marble Ark Hotel, Awka while the township stadium, Abakaliki would come alive on Saturday with performances from P-Square, African China, Ruggedman and the Star Quest bands.

Last weekend was an unforgettable one for youths and the young at heart in Benin and Gboko as the music concert rocked their towns with plenty of dancing and excitement. To these youths, it was another fulfillment of a promise by Star, to bring their favourite music stars closer to them at just a little token of a price. It was an unforgettable experience and they danced and swayed to the music of P-Square, African China, Weird MC, Mode 9, Tony One-week and the Star Quest bands.
