We’ll summon Obasanjo soon - EFCC

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that it will soon summon former President Olusegun Obasanjo to appear before it for corruption charges levelled against him by the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL).

According to the Head of General Investigation in the commission, Mr. Umaru Sanda, the commission was looking into the allegation of corrupt practices against the former president and as soon as it completed its investigation, EFCC would invite Chief Obasanjo to defend himself.

Mr. Sanda gave this explanation when CACOL leader, Mr Debo Adeniran, led some group of human rights activists to the EFCC office in Ikoyi, Lagos State, after staging a street protest, which saw the human rights activists marching from CMS Bus Stop in Lagos Island to Ikoyi, demanding for the probe of the former president.

Mr. Sanda explained that EFCC was working on the petition submitted by CACOL last November, and soon, the commission would round off its investigation and summon the former president to defend himself.

To convince the CACOL leader that the commission had begun work on the probe, the EFCC chief invited the leader of the group into his office to show him the level of work done on the investigation.

Expressing satisfaction with the EFCC on the petition, Adeniran urged the commission to speed up the probe.
