Equipment arrive for Glo launch in Benin

Three (Cargoes) Boeng 747 Jumbo Jets arrived Cotonou, Benin Republic, over the last one week, each carrying 100 tons of various pieces of equipment for Telecommunications giant Globacom.

They included transmission equipment flown in from South Africa and Europe. The generators in particular, were to secure constant and adequate power back up for the company’s operations when it took off in a few days.

Expressing Globacom’s delight on the development, the company’s project coordinator, Mr Lawrence Ezigbo, who received the cargoes at the Cotonou International Airport, said the launch of the network was now imminent.

“The arrival of these latest items signifies the countdown to our launch and this should be in a matter of days’’, he said.

The materials would be deployed nationwide, particularly to areas bereft of telecoms services. “We have taken sufficient time to assess the needs of the country and we have put in place a modern, efficient and adequate technological back up for the smooth running of our operations,” he also said at the airport.
