MAPOLY students protest

The students of the Moshood Abiola Polythecnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, on Tuesday protested over the non-implementation of the directive of the Ogun State governor, Chief Gbenga Daniel, on the further reduction of their tuition fees.

The governor had, during the foundation laying ceremony of Chief Kessington Adebutu Science Laboratory on the school campus about two weeks ago, directed that there should be a reduction by N7,000 in the school fees which was increased by the school management at the beginning of this session.

Some students, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune on Wednesday, said the institution’s management only effected the directive with the fresh students while the returning students were to pay the old fees.

The students expressed displeasure over they described as “foot-dragging” of the school’s management.

One of the students said the “directive of the governor was not only made in public, it was unambiguous and all-embracing. The governor must be aware of the crisis that the school authority has ignited.”

In an interview with newsmen in Abeokuta on Wednesday, the rector of the institution, Mr. Tokunbo Fowode, said the governor’s directive did not affect all the students.
