Truck driver kills tally clerk inside port

A staffer of APM Terminals (APMT) was, on Tuesday, killed by a truck inside the port premises while performing his duty. An eyewitness who told the Nigerian Tribune said the truck driver who was drunk at the time, had entered into the port when he lost control at the wheel and ran into the tally clerk.

The death of the tally clerk was said to have almost sparked off another protest in the port, but for intervention. Meanwhile, the Police have arrested the truck driver for interrogations as investigation into the death commenced in ernest.

The Managing Director of the APMT, Michael Lund Hansen, expressed his grief over the incident, with activities in the Terminal being paralysed in honour of the deceased.

The director said the relatives of the victim had been informed about the incident, while neccessary action was being taken to ensure that the issue did not degenerate into another tension.
