NSCDC arrests 15 secondary school students over cultism

Ogun State Commandant of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Abdulwaheed Popoola, on Wednesday said 15 secondary school students have been arrested for cultism.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta, Popoola said the students, who were arrested last week, were members of rival cult groups.

He said the cultists were apprehended when the Corps received a distress call on the rival cult groups that were fighting over “name calling.”

Popoola, who declined to name the students' schools, said fracas broke out when members of a cult group challenged the other group for bearing “Iroko” as its appellation.

“We were called in the following day when the other group went on a revenge mission at a secondary school.

“We discovered that the groups were armed with cutlasses, broken bottles and other dangerous weapons. “They also tied red scarf on their head as their insignia,” he said.
