Police trail OBJ’s former aide

The police high command is on the trail of former deputy Chief of Staff to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Olusola Akanmode, for allegedly hosting OPC thugs in his house.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, said this on Wednesday while parading 22 OPC members allegedly recruited for Saturday’s rescheduled governorship election in Kogi State.

Parading the suspects, Okiro said the various measures put in place by the police to ensure a free, fair and non-violent election in Kogi on Saturday had started to yield results, following the interception of two 18-seater buses; a black Nissan Urvan with registration number XA469KAB and a red Toyota with registration number XE409FGE; by mobile policemen while conveying 22 armed youths from Kabba and Aiyetoro Gbede to Anyigba.

He said on interrogation, the armed youth confessed that they were OPC members going to Anyigba for a political rally.

Okiro said the police recovered one locally-made pistol, three live cartridges, three axes, two chop knives and various charms from them.

According to him, on further interrogation, the suspects confirmed that their leaders were in another bus, which never arrived the scene of the arrest.

He said investigation into the matter had commenced with a view to identifying the said leaders and their sponsors for possible prosecution.
