Osun grants N6.1m loan to 610 women

Osun State government is fully committed to poverty reduction and promotion of accelerated development so that life will be life will be more meaningful to the people of the state especially women and children.

The state governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyin-lola, said this on Tuesday in Osogbo at the graduation ceremony of 610 women, who concluded a two-week skill acquisition training programme in catering , hat and bead making, soap making, batik designing.

While distributing interest-free loan of N10,000 to each of the 610 women, Prince Oyinlola enjoined them to make judicious use of the loan and return it so that others would benefit from such programme.

Prince Oyinlola then stated that the state government, in collaboration with 30 local governments and the Ife East area office, had facilitated the construction of 122 hand-pump boreholes and 6,100 household sanitation latrines platform latrines in 61 focal communities.

While noting that the state was second to none in replication of UNICEF community development initiatives, the governor added that his administration was determined to spread community development the nooks and crannies of the state and assured the execution of more physical projects before 2009.

The governor then directed the Ministry of local government to allocate substantial funds in subsequent budgets of the 30 local governments and the area office for the replication programme.
