NDLEA arrests 3 Indian hemp dealers

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Delta State command, has arrested three suspected Indian hemp dealers. The arrest followed a tip-off that a large expanse of farmland was cultivated with 8.4 tons of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

The Commander, Mr. Suleiman Ahmed Ningi, who briefed journalists at the weekend at the command headquarters in Ogwashi Uku, said “we made arrest in the both Ebu and Illushi when my men stormed the farmland.

“The weeds were freshly harvested and packaged in jumbo bags awaiting the arrival of the buyer from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and the street value for that 8.4 tons impounded is about N256 million.

“From April this year till date, we have impounded 22.7 tons of Indian hemp valued N908 million, secured 49 convictions with so many others awaiting trial while 17 vehicles used in the illicit trade were forfeited to the Federal Government, including five motorcycles,” he said.
