Kogi govt awards N300m erosion control contract

Kogi State government has awarded a contract worth about N300 million to control erosion in Ogwolawo in Ofu Local Government Area of the state. The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Timothy Omora, who disclosed this to newsmen in Lokoja at the weekend, said the contractor had been mobilised to the site.

Omora decried the danger the menace posed to the eastern senatorial district of the state and appealed to the Federal Government to come to the aid of the people of the area to effectively tackle the problem.

While assuring the people of the state of government’s desire to make all roads motor- able, the commissioner said the deplorable condition of Meme Road would soon be addressed, saying that the government had awarded contact for the rehabilitation of the road.

The commissioner, who also lamented the deplorable condition of the federal roads within the state, called on the Federal Government to rehabilitate the roads, stressing that the state being a link between the south and the north experienced heavy traffic throughout the year.

According to him, “the condition of federal roads in the state has always been a source of worry to us, particularly considering the fact that this state is a gateway to the federal capital city with its peculiar heavy traffic from the southern part of the country.

“This is the reason we call on the Federal Government to give attention to federal roads in this state for the benefit of the road users,” he said.
