2 burnt to death in Ikire fire incident

Two people on Thursday lost their lives while ten others sustained various degrees of burns in a fire incident which occured at Sunmoye garage, Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State.

The fire also consumed a block of ten shops and destroyed goods worth several millions of naira. Eyewitness said the fire incident started around 1.00 p.m from a shop at the garage which was noted for trading in petroleum products.

Although, the cause of the inferno was yet to be ascertained as of the time of filling this report, but one of the eyewitnesses said it might not be unconnected with the scooping of fuel by one of the traders.

The incident caused pandemonium in Ikire as people scampered to safety while vehicular movement was hindered on the Ife-Ibadan expressway.

Men of the state Fire Brigade put out the fire after it was aired on the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) radio.
