Ondo govt approves N207m monetisation for poly staff

The crisis rocking the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, has been resolved as the state government has approved the payment of N207 million being the arrears on monetisation owed the staff of the institution.

The state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ranti Akerele, said this in Akure, on Tuesday, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the executive council meeting of the state.

According to him, the money was for the settlement of the 10 months arrears of monetisation due to the three unions of the polytechnic.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), the Senior Staff Union and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the institution had embarked on indefinite strike action to press home their demands.

The commissioner, however, said the striking workers had, on Monday, returned to work, following the agreement reached with the state government.

Akerele said the payment was imperative in view of the protracted strike embarked upon by the various industrial unions in the institution, which had disrupted academic work with its attendant social consequence on students, parents and the society.
