Glo launches Owerri Optic Fibre cable tomorrow

Owerri, the Imo State capital, is now ready for the inauguration of the second southeastern leg of Globacom’s nationwide optic fibre transmission network.

Sources from the national operator said the state governor, Mr. Ikedi Ohakim, will launch the Owerri-Onitsha route of the project at Globacom’s Glo Base Station, beside Sun City Hotel, Owerri, on Thursday, at 11.00 a.m.

The inauguration of the Owerri-Onitsha leg follows the successful flag-off of the Onitsha-Awka route by Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State in Onitsha on March 13.

Dignitaries expected at the launch include the deputy governor of Imo State, Dr. Ada Okwuonu; Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Goodluck Opia, and the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Chief Ben Obinali.

Also expected at the event are the Chairman, South-East Traditional Rulers Forum and Imo State Council of Ndi Eze, Eze (Dr.) E. Ilomuanya, and the traditional ruler of Owerri Municipal Council, Eze Emmanuel Njemanze.

Globacom’s optic fibre cable is an advanced and most reliable transmission network which offers a much faster transmission of data, voice and broadband internet and multimedia services.

It is expected that the launch in Owerri would lead to a significant improvement in the quality of telecom services in Imo and Abia states and adjoining communities.
