NFA to interview Keshi, Amodu, others for Vogts’ job

Anichebe APPARENTLY determined to find a replacement for German coach, Berti Vogts, as Super Eagles head coach in time, the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) will today interview some indigenous coaches for the job.

Vogts quit the job last Wednesday following the poor performance of the Eagles at the 26th Nations Cup, Ghana 2008, where they crashed in the quarter-final, losing to arch-rivals, Black Stars of Ghana 1-2, their worst outing at the championship in over two decades, claiming lack of confidence in further cooperation with the NFA as the reason he took the decision.

Tribunesports gathered that those to be interviewed included former internationals, Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh, Daniel Amokachi, Austin Eguavoen, Samson Siasia and former Eagles coach, Amodu Shaibu, who qualified the team for the Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup.

Others to be interviewed, according to a Tribunesports source, are Fatai Amoo, Eta Egbe, John Obu, Zion Ogunfeyimi, Okey Emordi, Justin Tengher.

Confirming the report, chairman of the technical committee, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, told Tribunesports that the NFA board would name the replacement after the committee would have submitted its report on the interview session, adding that since the World Cup qualifiers would soon begin, the association did not want any vacuum.

“It is true that the technical committee will interview some coaches for the Super Eagles job tomorrow (today),” Ogunjobi told Tribunesports on phone.

“We don’t want any vacuum as the Eagles will begin their 2010 World Cup qualifying series in May.”
