Senate declares support for Mark

Against the insinuation that some senators were already jostling for the senate presidency following the nullification of the election of Senator David Marks, the Senate on Monday formally declared total support for Senator Mark, insisting that he remained on the seat.

But the Senate hinted that it was waiting for the pronouncement of the Appeal Court, saying “the judgment just means that the lower court has spoken but we are waiting for the pronouncement of the appellate court,” being the final authority on the National Assembly election matters.

Declaring the position of the Senate on Monday, the Senate spokesperson, Senator Ayogu Eze, said the Senate was solidly behind Senator Mark as the Senate President and the Senate leadership.

Senator Eze, who cut short his trip to Enugu to brief journalsits on the development, said what had happened did not change the mandate given to Senator Mark as the Senate President by the109 senators.

“The Senate President remains on his seat. There is nothing that happened that has changed the mandate that the 109 senators have invested on the Senate President,” Eze said.
