JUTH sacks 60 doctors over strike

No fewer than 60 members of the striking resident doctors of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) were sacked last week by the management of the hospital over the controversial Conso-lidated Tertiary Insti-tution Salary Scale (CONTISS).

The chairman of the association, Dr. Simji Gomerep, who disclosed this to the Nigerian Tribune in Jos, said the management of the hospital last week issued the sack letters to the doctors for their involvement in the on-going strike by resident doctors over the non-implementation of CONTISS said to have been implemented by other teaching hospitals in the country.

He explained that the doctors of the hospital initially suspended the strike due to the intervention of the Minister of Health and other Nigerians on the condition that the issues at stake would be addressed without any form of victimisation.

Dr. Gomerep said the doctors were forced to resume the strike due to the inability of the mana-gement to meet its part of the agreement, alleging that the hospital auth-orities also embarked on all sorts of victimisation of the striking doctors.
