AKWA Ibom State
Governor, Chief
Godswill Akpabio, has expressed shock at the slow pace of work at Ibom Science Park, threatening to take serious measures against contractors who renege on the terms of agreement on the various on-going projects in the state.
The governor, after an unscheduled tour of the site of the Science Park, submitted: “I am dissatisfied at what I have seen today, and I will take necessary steps to correct it.”
He hinted that the government would soon embark on financial audit of all its major on-going projects, to ensure accountability and transparency in their implementation.
Akpabio expressed shock that after collecting more than 80 per cent of the contract sum, the contractors had the mind to abandon the project.
He then sent words to them to immediately return to Nigeria for a meeting with the state government and speedy completion of the project.
“I was told that I did not need to come to this site because the project, according to the original agreement, was to be completed in March this year.
That is what I saw in the handing over note when I took over as governor,” he said.
