Robbers attack LP chieftain’s family

A Chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Ondo State, Chief Omoniyi Omodara, was on Sunday attacked by suspected armed robbers in Akure.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports, the robbers, numbering about 12, gained entry into the Oba-Ile Housing Estate residence of the Omodaras at about 2.00 a.m.

The bandits also attacked Chief Omodara’s younger brother, Biodun, who had just arrived from the United States for Christmas.

Omodara said the suspects allegedly scaled the fence and ransacked the entire building, demanding money and documents.

He said further that the bandits held the family hostage for more than two hours and tied them while escaping with their loot. According to him, some of the items carted away included foreign and local currencies, documents, trinkets, laptops, handsets and other household appliances.

He said going by the style of the operation, it showed that the suspects had an inside information about his household. Omodara said the development made him to suspect that the incident might be more than an armed robbery attack.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Aremu Adeniran, confirmed the incident. He said men of the command stormed the scene immediately they received a distress call from the people living in the area.
