LG elections:Ife North PDP vows to resist imposition of candidate

AS politicians from different political camps in the country prepare for the local government elections scheduled for 15th of December, the preparation is now tearing the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) in Ife North Local Government, Osun State apart, as members of the party, on Friday vowed to resist imposition of any candidate for the chairmanship position of the council.

The development, which has divided the members of the party in the council,saw them threatening not to take it lightly with one another if the concerned authority refuse to take the necessary step to checkmate the imposition.

The party members, in a statement made available to Sunday Tribune, said any attempt made to impose one Honourable Caleb Akinola on them, by the leaders of their party, would be resisted. They therefore appealed to the party, leaders to allow them choose the candidate of their choice.

In the statement signed by Adelabu Adeoti, the party members condemned the way and manner the leadership of the party wanted to impose the Honour-able on them and maintained that the imposition would not augur well for the progress of the party in the state.

Adeoti described Akinola as “the favourite of some leaders of the party who have been working round the clock to see that he gets his way without proper screening.”

He, however, pointed out that if primary election is not done in the council,the party may lose the local government position to the opposition as, according to him, they will not hesitate to work in favour of the opposition.

It was alleged in the statement that the candidate of the leaders was arrested and interrogated by security officials in the state on Friday, 16th of November, 2007, for alleged certificate forgery but was later released after some influential people intervened.
