Brother’s inhumanity against brother - ...I killed my brother over N30,000 - Suspect

Yinka Olukoya, Ijebu-Ode

Shina and his brother’s corpse on the farmland

IT is no longer news that children of the same parents hate one another, betray one another or even kill them selves, no matter the situation.

We read in the Holy Bible, the story of the brother who killed his fellow brother over the offerings they offered to their Creator. The story is not new, it is the story of Cain and Abel.

People like Cain and Abel abound in today’s world, and a good example are the Oyawale brothers of Orititi village, near Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, one of who killed his younger brother over a loan on the 17th November, 2007.

The victim, late Niyi Oyawale, Sunday Tribune gathered, had lent his senior brother, Shina Oyawale, a sum of #30,000 to do some farm work and that, at harvest, when the produce was sold, the loan would be returned to him.

For the gesture, the 29-year-old deceased reaped nothing but death. The elder brother, Shina, 32, while being paraded by the men of the Ogun State Police Command at its headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, confessed to being behind the untimely death of his brother.

When asked by our correspondent why he killed his brother, Shina said his brother had insulted him so much on the issue, in spite of the fact that he had promised to pay back. When the humiliation was too much for him, he felt that the only thing that could put an end to the problem, was to take his brother’s life, which he successfully did.

Going by what the Bible says in the book of Matthew Chapter 24 verses 6-10, when the disciples of Jesus Christ asked him what the sign of the endtime would be, He replied them that nation would rise against nation and that many would be offended, people would betray one another and particularly they would hate one another and with this statement of the Lord Jesus Christ, truly and indeed, the end time is here.

The suspect showed his hatred for his younger one by severally matcheting him on his farmland and left his corpse in the bush when he had carried out the heinous act.

To show his level of callousness, when people were searching for the late Niyi, who had not been seen for days, his killer brother also joined other people in looking for him.

The case of the missing Niyi was reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Atan in Ijebu North-East Local Government area of Ogun State.

Investigations conducted by detectives led to the arrest of Shina, who, upon interrogation, confessed to the killing, while his case was later transferred to Eleweran.
The police were able to recover the matchet used in perpetrating the evil act from the suspect, who was paraded among other suspects.

His words: ”I don’t know what led me into this but I want to believe that I carelessly allowed the devil to use me. While I was matcheting him, I was extremely furious because of the way and manner he addressed me on this money matter, which I had promised to pay back. It is unfortunate that I have to do this to my brother.

“I have learnt my lessons that it is not good to be wicked. See what I have done to my brother, myself and other members of our family. They should please forgive me. It is the devil that forced himself on me and I allowed him to use me,” he said apologetically.
