PDP asks court to stop elections in Lagos LCDAs

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a motion on notice at the Ikeja Division of the state high court seeking for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the state governor; Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; the House of Assembly and the state Independent Electoral Commission from conducting elections in the 37 local council development areas in the state.

Joined as co-respondents in the suit are the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Clerk of the National Assembly.

In the affidavit in support of the motion on notice deposed to by one Nureni Akinyemi, the PDP is claiming that the conduct of any election in the 37 local development areas would affect it negatively.

Already, the state House of Assembly has enacted a legislation known as Lagos State Independent Electoral Law 2008 which, among other things, empowers the state electoral body to conduct elections into the 37 local development areas.
