Kwara rehabilitated 388.7km roads in 5 yrs - Commissioner

KWARA State government, in the last five years, rehabilitated a total of 388.7 kilometres of roads across the state.

The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. AbdulRazak Atunwa, who said this at the monthly ministerial press briefing, stated that about 122.318 kilometres of roads were constructed in Kwara Central; about 113 kilometres in Kwara North and about 153.4 kilometres in Kwara South districts.

He said his ministry was responsible for the design, construction, rehabilitation, maintenance and supervision of roads in the state.

According to him, at the inception of the administration of Governor Bukola Saraki, five years ago, majority of roads in various parts of the state were in a deplorable state, but Governor Saraki embarked on a massive rehabilitation and construction of roads in all parts of the state.

He said the goals of the state government was to improve the road network in the state, noting that various bridges had been rehabilitated and new ones constructed.

The commissioner said in the last 12 months, the state fire service had attended to 133 emergency calls, out of which 125 were fire outbreaks.

According to him, fire fighters rescued seven people while the bodies of three persons were recovered, adding that the state government bought some fire fighting equipment for the organisation.
