Germany pledges support for EFCC

The German ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Doachim Schimelle, has assured of his country’s support for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He gave the assurance on Tuesday when he paid a visit to the chairman of the agency, Mrs. Farida Waziri.

Schimelle, who was received by Mrs. Waziri and other top management officials of the commission, said the essence of his visit was to underscore the importance the German government attached to the anti-graft agency because the commission was concerned about making Nigeria better for all.

He said it was also to underscore the relationship between the German government and the EFCC as well as the need to build on that relationship.

He said the government would continue to give the needed assistance to the commission whenever the need arose.

He said the German president, who was scheduled to visit Nigeria in November, had promised to visit the commission.

While congratulating her on her appointment, the ambassador prayed that God would give Waziri the power and energy to fight economic and financial crimes in the country.

Responding, Mrs. Waziri thanked the ambassador for believing in the commission, adding that though some people had expressed doubt about her appointment, she was in the saddle for a serious business.

“I am here on a very serious mission, and with the support of your government, good and patriotic Nigerians, success will be achieved. I promise that I will do my best. I believe that my posting here was an act of God,” she said.
