See what religious differences has done to me!

Dear Taiwo,

I am at cross roads and I need an advice urgently. Mine is a case of once beaten, twice shy and I don’t know why I seem to always attract the wrong type of women. I wonder what is happening to me. I met a lady recently and she taught me how to love again and showed me what true love really is. I have tried all I could not to fall in love with her but believe me, I cannot help myself. Now that I decided to go head-long into the relationship, I learnt of our religious differences, a factor which caused a great heartache years ago.

Because of that experience, I decided not to fall in love again. Now that it has happened, the ugly side of life is raising its head again. Although Jummy gave me the assurance but can I depend on that? Naomi, the lady who broke my heart and took away all I had years back, equally gave her words too but eventually she left me.

I met Naomi when I was in my final year at the university. I was a working student. I met her at the school where I take students for extra-murals. We became friendly and I learnt that she was interested in furthering her education but her parents could not afford to send her to higher school. Because of the interest and love I had for her, I decided to take up her education. I sponsored her through the university and after her youth service, I made sure I got her a good job.

She knew I was a Muslim and whenever I raised the issue of our religious difference, she assured me there would be no problem. We had a cause to disagree because of one guy she met in school. Her parents too was aware of my religion and they raised no objection.

When I took her home and introduced her to my parents and the issue of religious difference came up afterwards, I told them that I knew she would not want to change her religion but when we eventually get married and start to have kids, they will follow my footsteps until they can decide for themselves. Naomi and I talked this over and she had no objection.

I noticed that whenever I raised the issue of finally settling down with her, she would become evasive, until it led to a big quarrel between us. I sought an audience with her father and when I met her parents, I was shocked at their response. They told me that their daughter could not marry me because of our religious difference. I asked Naomi, she confirmed it and went on to tell me that she met her husband-to-be at the fellowship in the University.

I was devastated, but there was nothing I could do. I became heartbroken and vowed not to have anything to do with women again. I am not getting any younger and my parents are insisting that I bring a lady home for marriage. I have met another Christian lady. What do I do? Help me.
