Nigeria has cause to thank God — Shekarau

THE Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has said Nigeria has cause to thank God in spite of the cases at the election tribunals and turbulence here and there, because the nation has successfully conducted a civilian-to-civilian transition.

The governor said this while fielding questions from journalists yesterday in Ibadan at the fifth anniversary celebration of Kano Descendant Union, Ibadan chapter, just as he and his Oyo State counterpart, Adebayo Alao-Akala, stress the importance of unity in diversity.

The Oyo State governor, who was represented at the occasion which held on Saturday, said the Hausas and Yorubas have been created to live together. He enjoined every Nigerian to place emphasis on those things that promote peaceful co-existence. He said the Kano Descendant Union is working in tandem with the policy of the state government on education by encouraging child education.

While expressing happiness that peace now reigns in Oyo and Kano states, the governor promised the Hausas that they should not entertain fear about indigenisation as Oyo State, according to hm, is their home.

In his own speech, the Kano State governor, while associating himself with the message of Governor Akala expressed joy that there is peace between the Hasuas and the people of Ibadan and Oyo State in general. He charged the Kano Descendant Union not to let people see the organisation as an unnecessary pressure group that strives to disrupt peace. “Allah ordained you to live here,” he said.

As part of the events at the occasion was the conferment of awards on some eminent Nigerians including Alhaji Arisekola Alao, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, Dr. Ado Bayero, Alhaji Aminu Dantata and others.

The Olubadan of Ibadan as well as the Emir of Kano sent representatives to the occasion which has eminent people like the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Arisekola Alao in attendance.
