Union Homes MD calls for research into low-income housing

By Adebayo Segun - 25.05.2008

THE Managing Director/Chief Executive of Union Homes, Mr. Austine Aikhorin has called on the nation’s tertiary institutions, particularly those with good facilities for research, to look into the possibilities of increasing production and use of more local content in house delivery in Nigeria.

Aikhorin said this while welcoming delegates from the Department of Building, University of Lagos in his office. Aikhorin extolled the Department of Building, Unilag, for its quality scholarship, and urged them to join the efforts to reduce the spiraling cost of home-ownership in the country by focusing the department’s research and teaching programmes on values that would stimulate increased understanding, development and application of more local building materials, to supplement expensive and imported alternatives.

In his remarks, Dr. G. I. Idoro, Editor Construction Research Journal, thanked Union Homes for its prompt assistances towards the production of the academic journal.

He indicated the readiness of the department of building to work with Union Homes to resolve some of the problems dogging housing delivery in Nigeria.
