Kinsmen protest impeachment of Delta speaker

The people of Ndokwa ethnic nationality, home place of the impeached speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Olise Imegwu, have protested what they called the barbaric treatment meted out to their son by fellow legislators during the impeachment process.

The people, who are members of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), stormed the assembly complex and other public places in Asaba on Thursday, carrying placards with various inscriptions to condemn the act

Spokesman of the protesters, Mr. Larry Eduzuka, in a letter addressed to the chairman of the party in the state, copies of which were made available to newsmen, said “in as much as we are aware that parliamentary procedures allow for impeachment of the leaders whenever it is deemed necessary, it must be done in accordance with the rule of law.

“We condemn, in its entirety, the way and manner in which our leader and son was manhandled in the public glare.”

He said what happened in the assembly on Tuesday was the first of its kind since the inception of the state, adding that “we will fight to defend our integrity and position.”

The impeach speaker was bundled out of his seat by legislators during the impeachment.
