Mini van, N2.1m, recording contract up for grab as Star Quest ‘08 begins

talent show sponsored by Star lager; formerly hit the screen on popular television stations nation wide, last Sunday. The must watch young musical talent reality TV show is expected to produce the latest and hottest band for the country. The programme is expected to run every day on such TV stations as NTA Network, Silver Bird television, Super Screen television from 10.30 to 11.30 pm and on AIT, MBI, and Galaxy from 11.00 pm to 12.00 midnight.

The debut edition of the show last Sunday showed the regional screening which held in six major cities, Abuja, Lagos, Jos, Owerri, Enugu and Benin. It witnessed an unprecedented massive turn out of contestants in the various regions. In Lagos, it was extended by one day so that every contestant could be properly attended to.

The screening panel comprised experienced and renowned music producers like Albert Kalu and Glory Williams and popular award-winning artistes in the persons of Ruggedman, Weird MC and the duo, KC Presh. The screening was done in choice venues conducive for the contestants to showcase their talents and skills either as vocalists or instrumentalists.

It was big fun watching the young talents burst into occasional musical displays with their raw talents on the streets, while waiting to be duly accredited for the screening exercise. Some actually came with their vital musical instrument like talking drum, flute, violin, box guitar and what have you. The anxiety of winning a ticket to participate in the final lap of the show was boldly written on the faces of the applicants.

To sum up the selection exercise, one of the panel members remarked that a lot of the Star Quest seekers have the raw talents but, don’t know how to use them appropriately.

A five million naira recording contract, 2.1 million naira cash, a mini van and one year guaranteed accommodation in Lagos are the prizes to be taken home by the winning band. In addition, the winning band will also participate as performing artistes in the upcoming Star lager sponsored, Star Trek and the Star Mega Jam.

The thirty six music talents are expected to form six bands with each band made up of individuals with different musical skills. The bands will create and produce their own original music on which basis they will be evaluated by the viewing public. They will contest against each other and three bands will be eliminated in the first elimination round. The three remaining bands will move on to the national final and the winning band will again be decided 100% by live public voting via SMS.

at BCOS on Sunday. Photo: Tunde BabajideNEW executive members of the Oyo State chapter of the Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria (GOMAN), were inagurated on Sunday at the Chapel of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS).

The inauguration which was attended by the national President of the association, Evangelist (Dr.) Bola Are was attended by members of the association from different parts of the country.

The new executive led by Pastor Kola Oyeniran will paddle the canoe of the association for the next three years.

Meanwhile, the final burial passage of the late gospel minstrel Evangelist Bayo Adegboyega comes up this afternoon at Sango Cemetry, Oyo road, Ibadan.

A candle night procession was observed for the late musician by members of his association at Jogor Centre, Liberty road yesterday.

The late Adegboyega who hailed from Ekiti State died on Monday, 7 April at the age of 52.
