FCTA to reduce mass housing plots - Modibbo

25.03.2008

TO achieve better results and enable FCT residents get good value for plots of land earmarked for the Abuja Mass Housing Scheme, the FCT Administration has decided to reduce size of plots.

The FCT Minister, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, who made this disclosure in his office on Monday said that the era of applying for large chunk of land to be kept for future speculations was over.

The Minister reiterated that all mass housing plots would only be allocated to capable and serious investors who would ensure their development within stipulated period.

According to him, “if the set objective of the Mass Housing Scheme is realised, the dream of the Federal Government to provide housing for all will be easily achieved”.

Dr. Umar noted that after the review of the mass housing plots in the FCT, the current allottees would be left with only 25 hectares of land which he stressed would remain the bench mark for all future allocations.

The Minister emphasized that all investors who were able to develop such plots, and required, additional plots of land would be given.

He insisted that the whole idea was to make more houses available to the residents of the Federal Capital Territory at cheaper rate because the government should not have business in something the Organized Private Sector could handle effectively.

The Minister lamented a situation where large plots of land had been left in the hands of the few greedy who until now were just waiting for such property to appreciate before selling.
