NMA president rules out strike action

The National President of the Nigeria Medical Association(NMA), Dr Daniel Gana, has ruled out the possibility of the association going on strike soon.

According to Dr Gana, the dialogue currently going on between the association and the representatives of the Federal Government has been fruitful so far.

“We are currently resolving the technical areas and I can say the dialogue has so far been smooth sailing and Federal Government has been responsive.There is nothing like strike on the table for now”, he told the Nigerian Tribune in a telephone interview.

Although he did not disclose the details of the discussion so far, he said he was optimistic of an amicable resolution of the grievances.

He also restated the decision of the association not to recognize the two factional leadership of the National Association of Resident Doctors(NARD) saying the factionalisation was not in the best interest of the medical profession.

The NMA which had earlier planned to begin an indefinite strike in March later announced at a press conference in Lagos on the same day to give room for dialogue.
