Ondo govt dismisses LP’s allegation

THE Ondo State government on Sunday described as lies and misinformation, the Labour Party’s (LP) allegation that the government planned to destroy documents and evidences in possession of the state election petition tribunal.

The governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, through his Press Secretary, Mr. Donald Ojogo, said with the allegation, the LP was indirectly indicting or questioning the efficiency of the tribunal and security agencies in the state.

“The truth of the matter is that the governor or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) do not have such power to destroy any evidence.

“Any evidence or exhibit they claim to have presented is in the custody of the tribunal.

“Besides, if the LP is claiming it does not have any genuine reason to continue with the case, it should have the courage to tell the people of the state.

“We are not surprised they are raising such an alarm because they need to do this to convince their sponsors and unsuspecting party contributors that they are working. We expect more lies from them as the tribunal continues proceedings in January,” the statement said.

LP, in a release issued by its Director of Press, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, had claimed that the alleged act was perfected last Thursday at the Government House at an emergency meeting presided over by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Chief Segun Adegoke, where they allegedly agreed to use miscreants and thugs to burn down the state High Court venue of the sitting of the tribunal, thus preventing the tribunal from having evidence to continue the case of its govership candidate, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, against the governor.
