Dear Taiwo,
If they were expecting a scene, they were disappointed because I wasn’t moved by the information. I had suspected something like that would happen when Mama and her son started playing hanky-panky. I did what was expected of a typical Yoruba girl, I thanked them, assured them all would be well and continued with what I was doing.

A week later, Mama informed me that Bamiji would be coming home with his family and since she didn’t want trouble, I would do well to leave the house before their arrival. This made me call Bamiji for the last time. I knew our relationship had come to an end but I wanted to hear everything from him. Bamiji confirmed all I wanted to hear and said he was sorry things turned out that way. He also promised to find out where I would be living when he gets back to Nigeria. That was okay, just that I couldn’t remember telling him I was moving out. like mother, like son - two sly people.

I moved into my parents’house before I got my personal apartment. Some truth started unfolding after I left Mama’s house. One of such, was relayed to me by Mama's former neighbour, who came to conduct some business in the bank where I work. She told me that when Mama went to Oshogbo for the so-called burial ceremony with some family members, it was for the introduction ceremony between Bamiyi’s family and the new wife's family. She also told me that when Mama travelled abroad for three months, she went to nurse Bamiji’s new baby. I was aware of the day Bamiji married his new wife. Some of my friends advised me to go there and make a scene but I told them that though I am hurting, my God will fight for me. I thank Him, because He did. Six weeks ago, I learnt that Bamiji has been in Nigeria for some months and he was eager to see me. Bamiji got himself entangled in some shady deals which caused his wife’s death and his deportation back to Nigeria.

I was at home one sunny afternoon when Bamiji and his two friends came in. For old time sake, we exchanged pleasantries. Bamiji asked of Debbie and I was quick to ask him how come he remembered he has a daughter called Debbie. He felt ashamed. The purpose of his visit, was to narrate the many troubles he had passed through in the past two years. Bamiji concluded that I was the solution to his problem. He had been to different prophets and they told him that he would regain his glory only if I could forgive and pray for him. I replied him that I was sorry all those things happened to him, though I couldn’t remember cursing him or doing any evil against him. To err is human, to forgive is divine. I told him I would pray for him, praying is no problem to me but he shouldseek God's forgiveness.

Bamiji changed my life, he almost ruined it. He made a fool out of me and I became a laughing stock in his family. People mocked me and I had to struggle to make ends meet. I loved and trusted him but he threw my love back at me. I still find it difficult to love. Anytime I think of those hard times, I wish I never met Bamiji. His mother has also been sending people to plead on their behalf. She even wants me to send Debbie to her. As far as I am concerned, they might as well be talking to a brick wall. I’ve since taken my child to a boarding school. No one from his family will take her from me. Bamiji has done wrong, let him face the consequence. Who am I to intercept God when He is dealing with a culprit? Or am I being too hard?
