Newly-Elected
president of the
West African Football Union (WAFU), Dr. Amos Adamu has said that the body will soon meet with sports marketing company, adidas in the bid to find credible sponsors for the body.
Speaking with Tribunesports in Abidjan on Tuesday, Dr. Adamu stated that for WAFU to succeed, there was the need for it to embark on sponsorship drive for its competitions which would be unfolded in due course.
He added that WAFU would be engaging the services of Mr. Mike Itemuagbor as its marketer and that there would also be an open bidding so as to get as many sponsors as possible for the various competitions it would organise.
Dr. Adamu said further that before the year runs out, the new WAFU executive would be organising two competitions in Nigeria to kick start its activities.
"WAFU will surely rise again. We have two cups already for the competitions we are going to organise and as I talk to you, a telecommunication outfit in Nigeria has in principle accepted to sponsor one of the competitions.
"I also want to use this opportunity to tell the world that the WAFU secretariat remains in Abidjan but we will have a Liaison Office in Abuja," Adamu said.
He however, called on well-meaning people to support him in the bid to revive the sub-regional body.
